How to Add an AI Chat to Any Website Without Coding

You do not need a developer to put an AI chat on your website. If you can paste a line of code into your site's settings, you can do it, and if you cannot, you can send the line to someone who can. OneType uses one small script tag. Once it is on your pages, everything else, from the look to the answers, is managed from your OneType dashboard. This guide walks through it from start to a working chat.

Step 1: Create your chat and let it read your site

Sign up, create your chat and enter your website's address. Pick the pages you want it to learn from, such as services, pricing, shipping, help and contact pages. You can also add documents or paste text for answers that are not on the site. The chat answers in plain words, only from what you gave it, and shows a numbered source next to each sentence. Pages behind a login cannot be read.

Step 2: Choose a design from the templates

Pick one of the chat templates, such as a chat bubble, a hero section, an FAQ box or a sidebar. Add your logo as the avatar, and set the name visitors see, the greeting and a few starter questions. Good starter questions are the ones you answer most often. Use the test chat to ask real questions from your inbox and fix any weak answer by improving the page or adding a saved answer.

Step 3: Copy your script tag

In the setup flow, the Go live step asks for your website's domain and shows what it will do before it happens. One click then makes your agent active and public, adds your domain to its allowed domains and publishes the widget if nothing is live yet. After going live, OneType shows your script tag ready to copy. It goes just before the closing body tag. The same snippet is in your agent's "Add to your website" tab whenever you need it.

Step 4: Paste it where your site allows custom code

The same line works anywhere you can add custom code. Where to paste it depends on your site:

  • HTML: in your pages or shared layout, before the closing body tag.
  • WordPress: in a header and footer plugin, or in your theme's footer.
  • Webflow: as an embed in the site's custom code.
  • Shopify: in your theme's layout file.
  • Next.js and React: in your root layout or HTML template.
  • Divhunt: in an Embed element.

There are no plugins or apps for specific builders: the guides are paste instructions. If you are not the one who edits the site, one link opens an email with the snippet and instructions, ready to send to your developer.

Step 5: Test it and go live

Open your published site in a new tab, not the editor preview. A chat button appears in the corner of the page. While you install, OneType watches for your site: as soon as a page loads the chat, the Go live step shows "Live on" followed by your site's address, for example "Live on shop.example.com", and you do not even need to open the chat. If nothing shows after ten minutes, check that the line is on the published page, that the address is an allowed domain, that no ad blocker or security policy blocks the widget and that you reloaded the page. Then ask a question your pages answer and one they do not, and check that the chat says when it does not know.
