How to Add a Free AI Chatbot to Your Website

You can put an AI chatbot on your website without paying and without a card. The Free plan works on your live site today, and it is honest about its limits: a small monthly allowance, one agent and a OneType badge on the chat. This guide shows how to set up a free chatbot that answers from your own pages, what the Free plan includes, and what you need a paid plan for, so you can decide whether Free is enough.

Step 1: Start free, no card needed

Sign up and create your chat. There is no trial period and no card to enter: Free works from the first day. The Free plan includes 50 AI credits a month, with up to 10 a day, one agent, one team member and the OneType badge on the chat widget. You can use it on your live site, not only in a preview. A typical answer on the default model uses under one credit, longer answers use more, and an answer of "I don't know" is not billed. Unused credits do not roll over to the next month.

Step 2: Add your pages and test the answers

Enter your website's address and choose the pages the chat should learn from, such as services, pricing, shipping, help and contact pages. You can also add documents or paste text. The chat answers in plain words, only from what you gave it, and shows a numbered source next to each sentence, so visitors can check where an answer came from. Pages behind a login cannot be read. Before you add anything to your site, ask it real questions in the test chat. Include one your pages do not answer: the chat should say it does not know and offer a next step instead of guessing. If an answer is weak, improve the page or write a saved answer.

Step 3: Add one script tag to your site

After you go live, OneType shows your script tag ready to copy. It goes just before the closing body tag, or in your site's footer code, and the same line works anywhere you can add custom code. There are no plugins or apps to install. If you are not the one who edits the site, one link opens an email with the snippet and instructions, ready to send to your developer. Open your published site in a new tab, not the editor, and look for the chat button in the corner. Within about a minute OneType shows "Live on" followed by your site's address, for example "Live on shop.example.com". The chat loads only on the domains you allow, so anyone who copies your script tag onto another site gets nothing.

Step 4: Know how the Free plan keeps up with your site

On Free there is no automatic schedule for reading your pages again. When your site changes, you press Sync now on a source, once a day. Paid plans read your sources again on a schedule, and only the passages that changed are updated. A small habit helps on Free: whenever you change a price, a policy or opening hours, sync that source. For wording that must never vary, write a saved answer, which is live the moment you save it and does not wait for a sync.

Step 5: See what needs a paid plan

Some things are not on Free. Handing a chat to a person needs a paid plan, as does turning on handoff for your team. Removing the OneType badge is a paid feature. Webhooks need a plan that includes them. Free also has the smallest credit allowance: 50 credits a month, and no more than 10 a day. When a day's 10 credits are used, the chat answers as if it were out of credits until the next day (UTC), and visitors see an out-of-credits reply. People who manage billing see a notice in the app at 80% and at 100% of the month's credits, and at 100% your agents stop answering until the credits renew or you upgrade. If your chat is busy, keep an eye on that. If it is not, Free can be enough for a small site. The pricing page lists what each plan includes.
