How to Add a Chat to Your Webflow Site

Webflow gives you full control over how your site looks, but a visitor with a question still has to hunt through your pages. An AI chat answers from your own content and, when needed, hands the conversation to your team. Adding it to Webflow takes one line in your site's custom code. This guide shows where to paste it and how to check that the chat is live.

Step 1: Create the chat and let it read your site

Sign up, create your chat and enter your Webflow site's address. Choose which pages to read, such as services, pricing, shipping or help pages, and add documents if your answers live in files. The chat answers only from what it reads and shows a numbered source for every sentence. Ask it a few real questions in the test chat. If an answer is missing or unclear, improve the page in Webflow and let the chat read it again. Set the name, greeting and starter questions, and pick a template and your logo. Pages behind a login cannot be read, so keep the answers visitors need on public pages. The chat does not state a price, date or policy that your sources do not state.

Step 2: Copy the Webflow embed from "Add to your website"

After you go live, OneType shows your script tag ready to copy. It is also in your agent's "Add to your website" tab, which offers Custom code, Webflow and Divhunt. For Webflow, you add the chat as an embed in the site's custom code, and the steps below show how.

Step 3: Paste it in the site's custom code

Custom code needs a paid Webflow site plan. In Webflow:

  1. Open your site and go to Site settings.
  2. Click Custom code in the left menu.
  3. Scroll to Footer code and paste the script tag.
  4. Click Save changes.

The same line works on every page of the site, so you paste it once. If you are not the one who edits the Webflow site, one link in OneType opens an email with the snippet and instructions, ready to send to whoever does.

Step 4: Publish your Webflow site

Click Publish at the top right. The chat only shows on the published site, not in the Designer. If you test on Webflow's staging address, which ends in webflow.io, add that exact address to your agent's allowed domains too, because the chat loads only on the domains you allow. Your own domain is added for you when you use the Go live step. Anyone who copies your script tag onto another site gets nothing.

Step 5: Check that it is live and test

Open your published site in a new tab. A chat button appears in the corner, and within about a minute OneType shows "Live on" followed by your site's address, for example "Live on shop.example.com" in the Go live step. You do not need to open the chat. If nothing shows after ten minutes, check that the line is on the published page, that the address is an allowed domain, that no ad blocker or security policy blocks the widget and that you reloaded the page. Then ask a question your pages answer and one they do not. The chat should say it does not know and offer your next step.
