How to Add a Chat to Your WordPress Site
You can add an AI chat to a WordPress site in a few minutes. OneType does not use a WordPress plugin or app of its own: you paste one script tag, the same one used on any website. This guide shows where to paste it in WordPress and how to check that it works. When a visitor asks for a person, your team can take over the chat, so it works as a live chat too.
Step 1: Create your chat and let it read your site
In OneType, enter your website address, choose the pages the chat should read, and wait while it reads them. You can try questions in the preview before you install anything. After that, the Go live step shows your script tag ready to copy.
Step 2: Copy your script tag
OneType shows one small line that loads the chat. It names your agent. The same line is always in your agent's Add to your website tab, so you can come back to it later. Everything else, from the look to the answers, is managed from your dashboard, so you never touch your site's code again for a design change. The script goes just above the closing body tag, and the same line works anywhere you can add custom code, which is why one snippet covers WordPress, plain HTML and most other sites.
Step 3: Paste it into your footer
The simplest way is a header and footer plugin from another publisher, such as WPCode. In your WordPress admin, go to Plugins, then Add New, search for WPCode, then install and activate it. Open Code Snippets, then Header & Footer, paste the line into the Footer box and click Save Changes. If you prefer, you can paste the line into your theme's footer instead. Note that on wordpress.com, plugins need a paid plan; on your own WordPress you can do this today.
Step 4: Allow your domain
The chat loads only on the websites you allow. In the Go live step, enter your site's domain. OneType shows what it will do before it happens, then adds your domain to the agent's allowed domains. Anyone who copies your script onto another site gets nothing.
Step 5: Check that it is live
Open your published site, not the WordPress editor. You should see a chat button in the corner. Within a minute of opening any page, OneType shows "Live on" followed by your site's address, for example "Live on shop.example.com". If nothing shows up after ten minutes, OneType lists what to check, such as whether the line is on the published page and whether the address is an allowed domain. Then ask the chat a question you know it can answer, and one it cannot, to see how it hands over to your team or collects a contact form. If you are the one who edits the site, you are done. If someone else does, send them the snippet by email from OneType.
