How to Add an AI Chat to Your Wix Site With Custom Code

A Wix site looks the way you designed it, but a visitor with a question still has to look for the answer. An AI chat can answer from your own pages, show where each answer came from and pass a conversation to your team when needed. OneType has no Wix app and nothing to install from an app market: you paste one line into Wix's Custom code settings, the same line used on any website. This guide shows what to prepare, the exact steps in Wix, and how to check that the chat is live.

Step 1: Create the chat and let it read your site

Sign up, create your chat and enter your Wix site's address. Choose the pages the chat should learn from, such as services, pricing, booking information, shipping and contact pages, and add documents if some answers live in files. The chat answers in plain words, only from what you gave it, and shows a numbered source next to each sentence, so a visitor can check where an answer came from. Pages behind a login cannot be read. Ask it a few real questions in the test chat, including one your pages do not answer: it should say it does not know instead of guessing.

Step 2: Pick a template and set the basics

Pick one of the chat templates, add your logo, and set the name visitors see, the greeting and a few starter questions. Good starter questions are the ones you answer most often by email. You can change the name, greeting and starter questions later from your OneType dashboard, and your site shows the new look within about a minute, without opening Wix again.

Step 3: Copy your line

After you go live, OneType shows your script line ready to copy. The same line is in your agent's "Add to your website" tab whenever you need it. If you are not the one who edits the Wix site, one link opens an email with the line and instructions, ready to send to whoever does.

Step 4: Add it in Wix Custom code

The steps in Wix are:

  1. In your Wix dashboard, go to Settings, then Custom Code (under Development & integrations).
  2. Click + Add Custom Code at the top right.
  3. Paste your line into the box and give it a name, such as OneType.
  4. Under Add Code to Pages, choose All pages, which Wix says includes any new pages that you create in the future.
  5. Under Place Code in, choose Body - end.
  6. Click Apply, then publish your site.

Wix says custom code needs a published site with a connected domain, so check that first if you cannot add it. Wix also warns that if you assign a different domain to your site, your code snippets are deleted, so add the line again after a domain change.

Step 5: Check that it is live and test it

Open your published site in a new tab, not the editor. A chat button appears in the corner of the page, and within about a minute OneType shows "Live on" followed by your site's address, for example "Live on shop.example.com". You do not need to open the chat for this. If nothing shows after ten minutes, check that the line is on the published page, that the address is an allowed domain, that no ad blocker or security policy blocks the widget and that you reloaded the page. The chat loads only on the domains you allow, and your own domain is added when you use the Go live step. Then ask a question your pages answer and one they do not.
